Warith Institute's Participation in the Iraqi Medical Association Conference
Dr. Mourad Hawash, PhD. in Radiation Oncology from the Warith International Cancer Institute (WICI), presented a lecture on bone tumors during the Iraqi Medical Association conference. The conference, organized by the Iraqi Orthopedic Association in Karbala in collaboration with the Karbala Health Directorate, celebrated the ninth Orthopedic Day. During his lecture, Dr. Mourad discussed the role of neoadjuvant radiotherapy in treating soft tissue sarcomas, highlighting the benefits of radiation before surgery compared to doing so afterward.
Radiation therapy is a common treatment for soft tissue sarcomas. It uses high-energy X-rays to destroy cancer cells. Undergoing radiation therapy before surgery, known as neoadjuvant radiation therapy, aims to shrink the size of the sarcoma, making it easier to surgically remove and potentially allowing for a smaller surgical procedure. Additionally, radiation therapy before surgery may help reduce the risk of cancer recurrence in the future.
